Damselflies (Western Red Damsel)





Western Red Damsel
Amphiagrion abbreviatum


Native 
Status: Rare

Size: very small

Length -  24 - 30 mm

Eye color - brown

Face color - male: hairy black head

Thorax color - male: hairy black thorax,  female: pale peach to reddish; thorax tawny

Abdomen color - male: bright red abdomen that barely extends beyond wings; black on top; 7-10 segments

Habitat - mountain lakes, marshes, slow streams

Flight period - April - September 

Range - British Columbia east to Saskatc
hewan and south to Oklahoma, Nevada, and California
